According to a recent report from CBS Money Watch there are a handful of scams out there for people to be aware of. If you’ve been talking to job placement companies lately there is a need to be cautious and look to see if they’re legitimate or if they’re just taking advantage of you.

The report says that phony placement companies ask the unemployed for a fee paid in advance to get them considered for a job. Problem is, this job never materializes. This scam continues and it could be much worse than using some money. According to the Better Business Bureau some of these placement companies are stealing identities. They will ask for your personal information, like a social security number, bank account numbers and more, all to get you a job.

Be warned that this is not typical of a placement agency unless you are actually employed through them. You shouldn’t need to provide this information unless they’re setting up your paycheck or in possible use for a background check, but not typically before. A legitimate placement agency may impose fees AFTER you get the job although normally the company that employs you pays them.
