I’ve been a professional website designer and developer for the past 17 years, and I’ve seen many changes and advancements in website design. When I started developing websites in 2006, static websites were still quite common. In fact, it wasn’t until 2007 that I was introduced to database-driven websites and content management systems.
Some of the changes I’ve seen during my career include:
- The replacement of Adobe Flash by more modern web standards (and safer alternatives)
- The introduction of Hypertext Markup Language 5 (HTML 5) and Cascading Style Sheets 3 (CSS3)
- Flat design
- A focus on functionality, usability and accessibility
However, none of those advancements compare to what I just recently discovered: AI-generated websites.
What Are AI-Generated Websites?
Brad Johnson, the founder and owner of Anew Media Group, described AI-generated websites as websites that are created with the assistance of artificial intelligence software. Although humans are still needed to plan and maintain websites, AI can make the design and development process easier and faster.

What Are the Advantages of Using AI for Website Design?
AI can be used in many areas of information technology. In website design, artificial intelligence can be used to perform complex tasks in seconds. AI can also improve user experience and website usability.
In addition, AI can enhance website optimization and increase functionality. Developers can even generate long lines of code with the mere push of a button.

Will AI Replace Website Designers in the Future?
As an experiment, I used Hostinger’s AI website design tool. I have to admit that using this website design tool was somewhat mind-blowing, especially if all you’ve ever known is designing websites from the ground up.
In the past, I’ve spent countless hours coming up with website themes and deciding which fonts and colors to use. I’ve had to make sure that my designs not only please my clients but are also compatible with all major browsers and meet industry standards.
Having a tool at your disposal that can do the “grunt work” of website design is definitely a time- saver. I told Hostinger’s website builder what my website was about. It offered me three different designs and a good selection of font pairs to work with as I was designing the site.
It even animated the website as it loaded in my browser. Also, Hostinger’s AI website design tool even used responsive design for creating the website as part of the design process, so that my website would look good on both desktop and mobile devices.
However, despite the ease of designing a website with an AI website builder, I still had to modify some of the text and use my own photos. This type of AI is still a long way from replacing human website designers, though.
Designers will still be needed to meet with clients, gather ideas and information, oversee the website design process, and maintain the websites they develop. AI has come a long way, but I don’t think that new designers will have to worry about their jobs any time soon.
