Coming Soon: The National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair

The University is excited to announce that on Friday, September 22, the National Cybersecurity Training and Education (NCyTE) Center and the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (CAE-C) Community will hold their seventh annual National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair. This exclusive event is only open to cybersecurity students and alumni from institutions with CAE-C designations, such as American Public University System (APUS).

The National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair will take place online from 12-4 p.m. ET (9 a.m.-1 p.m. PT). During this event, attendees will have the opportunity to visit virtual “booths” and talk directly with recruiters from various industries, government agencies, and academic institutions to find out more information about open positions.

We are extremely excited to see our students graduate from our rigorous cybersecurity program and to begin contributing to the cybersecurity profession in the business, public, and private sectors! – Dr. Andre Slonopas, Cybersecurity Program Chair

Four Ways to Prepare for the National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair

Career fairs are an exceptional way to discuss opportunities and directly showcase your skills to hiring managers. Before you attend the National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair, it’s important to do your homework. First, compile a list of your cybersecurity certifications, such as:

  • Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP®)
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification®
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH®)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA®)
  • Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM®)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®)
  • Global Information Assurance Certified Incident Handler (GCIH®)
  • Global Information Assurance Security Essentials Certification (GSEC®)
  • Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP®)
  • Systems Security Certified Professional (SSCP®)

Second, research the organizations after you register for the National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair. Some information about the organizations’ background and activities can be gleaned from their websites. In addition, there may also be clues to an organization’s internal culture through social media sites such as LinkedIn®, Facebook®, and Twitter® (now known as X).

Third, create a reference list of talking points to keep beside you during the National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair. The talking points could be a bulleted or numbered list, containing information you want a recruiter to know about you or specific questions you want to ask a recruiter about an organization.

Fourth, determine which recruiters you plan to speak with and be sure to craft a tailored resume that highlights your skills, knowledge, and experience. If you need help with your resume or interviewing skills prior to the National Cybersecurity Virtual Career Fair, be sure to reach out to the University’s Career Services department for a resume review or mock interview.
