New intelligence, recently released into the open source, suggests that North Korea has been working on an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking the U.S. North Korea’s larger missiles – namely the Taepodong 1 and 2 – require a fixed launch facility. The benefits of a mobile ICBM, such as hiding in the many tunnels Pyongyang has dung into its mountainous territory, are readily apparent.

China’s head of the Central Political and Legislative Committee, Zhou Yongkang, claimed that China is “ill-prepared” to handle massive social unrest. Yongkang’s remarks come on the heels of slowing economic growth and increasing unemployment. China’s unemployment problem has led to wider demonstrations across the country and this has caused a headache for many leaders in Beijing. This represents the crux of China’s current problems.

Last Thursday, as most Americans were celebrating Thanksgiving, North Korea threatened to turn South Korea’s Blue House into a sea of fire. For the uninitiated, the Blue House is South Korea’s presidential residence located in Seoul. If the term “sea of fire” sounds familiar that is because it is a familiar refrain from North Korean leadership when they issue their frequent threats.
