American Military University (AMU) faculty members, Dr. Thomas Phelan and Dr. Christopher Reynolds provide insight into the emergency response efforts after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan Friday, March 11. Listen to the podcast.
- Dr. Thomas Phalen, Director of Emergency and Disaster Management and Fire Science programs at AMU, is a founding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security who served with the Disaster Mortuary Response Team in St. Gabriel, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and at the World Trade Center after 9/11. Dr. Phalen received the New York State Senate Liberty Award for his service at Ground Zero.
- Dr. Christopher Reynolds currently serves as the Director for the Homeland Security program and Dean for the Center for Teaching and Learning at AMU. His emergency management experience includes the Oklahoma City Bombing, Hurricanes Andrew, Elena, Opal, and Katrina; Haitian Earthquake, and the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill.
