A white van mounted a curb and plowed into pedestrians outside a kosher restaurant along Barcelona’s iconic Las Ramblas promenade Thursday. At least one person was reported killed and at least 32 others were injured. Ten victims were in serious condition, according to BBC News.

Barcelona police are calling the incident a terrorist attack.

The driver jumped from the van and fled on foot. Two other men ran into a nearby Turkish restaurant armed with guns, according to local media. It was not immediately clear whether one of them was the driver of the van.

The U.S. Embassy in Madrid tweeted, “We are aware of a reported incident at Las Ramblas in Barcelona. Please avoid the area and monitor local police @mossos for updates.”

Catalan emergency services called for the closure of all Metro and train stations in the area.
