It’s a new year here in the Department of Career Services and we’re excited about the events we have planned to help our students and alumni achieve their career goals. You may be familiar with services such as career coaching, mock interviews and resume reviews, but did you know that we also host events specifically geared to help students/alumni achieve their goals? Take a look at just some of the events we have scheduled for the upcoming year!

Virtual Career Fairs

You may be familiar with our Virtual Career Fairs (VCF), but did you know that in August of 2017, we launched our new VCF platform? Our new platform allows students and recruiters to interact in a brand-new way and increases engagement and information sharing.

Now, employers can post information about specific positions, as well as about the company or recruiting process which students and alumni can review prior to chatting with the employer. Additionally, employers can review participants’ resumes on the spot in order to have more productive and engaging conversations about experience. Take a look at our full calendar of VCFs here: http://apusvcf2018.vfairs.com.

Students and alumni can register now for our upcoming February Public Safety and Health VCF.

Employer Information Sessions

Our employers love to connect with our students and alumni, and in 2018, we will be hosting more employer information sessions. An employer information session allows a recruiter to share information about their company, a specific position, or information about the field. This gives students the opportunity to connect directly with our employers and allows them to ask questions as well as network.

Can’t make the session in person? No problem! We record them (with permission of the employer) and make them available on our social media sites.

Portfolium Challenges

Hopefully, you’re already fully utilizing all of the functionalities available in Portfolium, the university’s job board and ePortfolio. If you aren’t, check it out and set up your account today!

If you are, be on the lookout for Challenges throughout the year (you’ll receive a message directly from Portfolium). Challenges are group competitions, where you’ll be given a prompt or a specific set of guidelines, such as submit your best work from the past year or tell us about your career journey.

Be sure to share on your social media because submissions with the highest number of likes are reviewed by APUS staff and winners are selected. Past prizes included AMU and APU swag, as well as getting published on OnlineLearningTips.com.

Workshops

Making their debut in 2018 will be the Career Services Workshop Series. While you may have seen us attend (and will continue to do so) the Graduate Studies Webinar Series and Group Advising Sessions, we are launching our own, highly focused workshops to help students prepare for their job search. Topics will vary from writing fabulous bullet points to interviewing tips and tricks.

If you’re wondering how to get the most up-to-date information on our events, that’s easy! Check out our calendar of events on the Career Services webpage or follow us on social media.

If you have any questions, be sure to send us an email at careerservices@apus.edu or call us at 877-755-2787.
