Homeland Security Week Conference Returns to DC Oct. 24

The 12th annual Homeland Security Week conference will take place in our nation’s capital from Oct. 24 to Oct. 27. The conference brings together some of the country’s top subject matter experts in fields related to national security, intelligence, counterterrorism, border security, biometrics, cybersecurity and many more industries.

American Military University’s industry-leading publication, In Homeland Security, will provide up-to-the-minute coverage of the event via its contributors and editors. AMU’s Dr. Christopher Reynolds, founder of AMU’s publication, EDM Digest, will be a panelist at the conference.

Homeland Security Week is organized by the International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC). This international company plans and orchestrates approximately 2,000 worldwide conferences, webinars, seminars and other presentations each year.

“Homeland Security Week was founded just three years after the inception of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,” states Marie DiTrapani, IQPC’s producer for Homeland Security Week. “Our goal has always been to highlight and promote a safe and resilient homeland whilst driving innovation and technology forward. We align Homeland Security Week to meet the needs of policy makers, heads of procurement, directors of operations and industry executives.”

Counterterrorism Is a Key Theme of Homeland Security Week

Homeland Security Week attracts more than 250 attendees from various national security fields, including Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel, executives, academia and elected officials as well as other important stakeholders. Each attendee and speaker is committed to making America safer, especially in an age when terrorism strikes on a nearly monthly basis and the risk from homegrown terrorism continues to soar

“I would say one of the top themes this year is counterterrorism. With all the acts of terrorism in the past few years throughout the U.S. and the world, we are recognizing the need to focus on generating more actionable intelligence and city surveillance to help combat terrorist acts,” says DiTrapani.

This year’s slate of speakers is as impressive as in previous years. DHS, the United States Secret Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the FBI, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), FEMA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are just some of the government entities providing speakers at this year’s conference. The United States military is also well represented.

“We recognize it takes more than one visionary to make change happen,” DiTrapani comments. “By bringing together diverse sectors and speakers, the community can effectively share their challenges, successful case studies and priorities in a collaborative collective effort to protect our homeland.”

When attendees aren’t engaged in the informative presentations by speakers at Homeland Security Week, they can visit the expo hall to interact with the many exhibitors at this year’s event. Exhibitors include SAP, Datawatch Systems, Shinobi Cyber and Green Bit – to name just a few.

“This is a unique opportunity to learn about the agencies’ strategies, requirements and future acquisitions and what opportunities may present themselves in the future,” DiTrapani says.
