As cyber events increase in frequency worldwide, IBM is proactively seeking women for a number of roles. But women are largely underrepresented in the cybersecurity field. In a recent report by research firm Frost and Sullivan, only 11% of cybersecurity workers are women.

Many individuals are put off by a career in cyber defense because they think it may be too technical or they don’t have the right IT background. In reality, there is an entire subset of cyber jobs – including training, writing and design jobs – that companies are desperate to fill.

Shortage of Cybersecurity Workers Expected in the Future

Frost and Sullivan’s report also states that by 2022, there will be a shortage of 1.8 million information security workers. Given recent headlines about Russian hacking into our nation’s infrastructure, cybersecurity firms need to start filling jobs immediately.
