Two individuals, a man and woman, have been taken into custody in London after a search warrant lead to information regarding the hacking of storage devices used by the D.C. police to record data from surveillance cameras on January 19th, one day before the presidential inauguration.
The names of the suspects have not been released. Reports indicate that both the male, from Britain, and female, from Sweden, are both 50 years of age.
According to reports from the Washington Post, the hack seemed to be an attempt at extortion. This attack included 127 out of 187 network video recorders in the D.C. public area. Officials did not believe this incident would have any cause for concern for the public regarding their safety.
No ransom was ever paid in conjunction with the incident. Devices were taken offline, the malicious software was removed and the systems were restored.
