30 State Governor’s receive Threatening Letter’s

By William Tucker
According to the FBI, about 30 Governor’s representing both major political parties have received letters demanding that these politicians leave office in three days or be removed. The group that sent the letters calls itself the Guardians of the Republics and claims via its website its intention to restore America through nonviolent means. Furthermore, the group claims to have the support of high ranking officials in the U.S. military in carrying out these goals. While these claims by domestic extremists are nothing new (in fact, they are identical to most of the known anti-government groups operating in the U.S.), they do deserve examination.

Last weekend federal law enforcement disrupted a plot to kill several police officers in the states of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana by a group known as the Hutarees. Groups like the Guardians of the Republics and the Hutarees follow in the footsteps of The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord (CSA) and the Order in their desire to fundamentally change the U.S. government based upon perceptions that the government has become oppressive. Over the last thirty years federal law enforcement has done a remarkable job of penetrating these organizations and shutting them down before they become violent, but as in the case of the Oklahoma City Bombing, not all have been disrupted.
While the Guardians of the Republics have not engaged in violence, at least not using this name, it is possible that other groups may heed the call to remove these politicians via violent means. We must also bear in mind that many of these domestic groups operate in small groups that practice far better operation security than the Hutarees and may be less inclined than the Guardians of the Republics for wide scale exposure. With the current uptick in domestic militant groups we must maintain our national vigilance.
