School of Business Introduces Undergraduate Certificate for CPA Exam Preparation

By student request, we’ve added a new certificate to the School of Business: the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination Preparation undergraduate certificate. Developed for non-accounting business students, this certificate helps you acquire the accounting knowledge needed for the Uniform CPA Exam.

This one-year certificate program covers topics such as intermediate accounting, accounting information systems, auditing and cost accounting. Other topics include law for accountants and individual federal taxes.

CPA Exam Preparation Certificate Useful for Different Professions

The knowledge you gain from this certificate applies to multiple career fields, such as marketing and management. Criminal justice, law enforcement, information technology, business analytics, information systems security and intelligence students could also use this certificate to developing the skills necessary for enterprise financial data protection and forensic accounting.

Small business owners may want to consider this certificate to better understand how costs affect their business operations. According to Forbes writer Eric Wagner, “Data shows that 80% of small business owners don’t know their costs, which impacts their ability to succeed. Through a better understanding of accounting, small business owners understand their expenses and improve their chances of remaining in business.”

Accounting Credits From Another School May Be Transferable

If you’ve taken accounting courses at another college or university, you may be able to transfer some of your academic credits toward this certificate. Contact your admissions representative and ask about a transfer credit evaluation.

Check with Your State Board of Accountancy for Legal Requirements

CPA requirements vary from state to state. Be sure to check with your state’s Board of Accountancy to understand your state’s eligibility requirements for taking the Uniform CPA Exam and for licensure.
