It wasn’t all that long ago that artificial intelligence seemed like an elusive, futuristic concept. Today, however, we see the influence of AI all around us, ranging from the phones in our pockets to self-driving vehicles out on the road.

Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming ubiquitous in our technology-driven world. Now, it’s even making its way into the virtual classrooms of the University.

Build Career-Relevant AI Skills

Our new online B.S. in artificial intelligence examines how back-end AI algorithms analyze users’ prompts and generate responses accordingly. Courses for this degree program incorporate lab exercises that simulate real-life scenarios AI professionals may encounter.

The curriculum prioritizes career readiness and teaches real-world skills through hands-on assignments that involve:

  • Developing AI-powered applications, such as wrappers, chatbots and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems
  • Designing prompt libraries
  • Working with vector databases

No prior coding experience is required for admission. Students will build foundational skills through courses that gradually introduce programming languages and software development best practices.

The BS in Artificial Intelligence Includes Two MIT Courses

We created this B.S. in artificial intelligence degree in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL). The curriculum incorporates two courses from this leading research center:

  • ARIN210 Machine Learning in Business
  • ARIN211 User Experience Design

“Artificial intelligence is driving innovation across business and technology sectors. This program provides hands-on experience building and deploying AI systems while emphasizing responsible design,” says Jared Gill, Ph.D, the University’s artificial intelligence department chair. “Graduates are prepared to contribute to industry teams developing intelligent solutions that deliver measurable impact.”

There are 15 total major-required courses in this program, in addition to a capstone project that concludes the 120-credit program. The final project demonstrates students’ ability to develop comprehensive AI solutions suited to real-world use cases.

AI Is Quickly Becoming an Integral Tool for Modern Professionals

As an institution committed to career readiness, the University introduced the B.S. in artificial intelligence to prepare students for today’s evolving workplace. Organizations are increasingly leveraging AI systems to streamline operations, automate tasks, and maximize productivity. In fact, the widespread adoption of AI technology spans both the public and private sectors.

“Public-sector adoption still lags behind leading private industries,” Gallup reports. “Still, the upward trend in AI usage is clear. During the past two years, federal and state workers have rapidly incorporated AI tools into their daily work.”

This Online Program Centers on Ethical AI Practices

“Leaders across the public and private sectors must understand both the power and risks of artificial intelligence,” explains Dr. Gill. “This program develops professionals who can responsibly design, evaluate, and deploy AI systems to strengthen mission capability and strategic advantage.”

In their courses for this B.S. in artificial intelligence degree, students will consider issues such as algorithm bias, data privacy and the potential for AI to displace qualified professionals from the workforce.
