Make a Back-Up Plan for Stressful Times

As the temperatures start to lower, so should your blood pressure right? If you have kids, then you’re not the only one going back to school right now. More work and less time can be a heartburn attack waiting to happen. Instead of going over the edge have a back-up plan to counterbalance the stress.

If you’re not a planner, and you’re rarely ever organized but you can get stressed at the drop of a book then it’s time to change a couple of things. Part of your plan to avoid stress should be getting organized. Map out your class schedule and when all of your assignments are due. Give yourself a cushion so you don’t feel like the walls are closing in on you. Tack up your schedule in a highly visible spot, and mark things off as you get to them.

When things start to pile up give yourself a break. Don’t wait until you’re a ball of nervous energy, take a breather away from classwork for an hour. Enjoy the weather with a nice walk, or take a coffee break. You can have the same routine for getting away from the assignments, or change it up to get a different perspective.

Next, keep things light! Part of your stress-free plan should include something lighthearted. A laugh releases chemicals that can automatically soothe you. Read something funny, or watch an amusing video online. Don’t take yourself too seriously when you’re stressed. If you’re able to laugh it off then you’ll get over it easier.

The learning process should be fun, and it wouldn’t be a challenge if it didn’t make you want to yank your hair out from time to time. Just remember to be positive and move on to something else instead of yelling at the computer or your assignment. Enjoy your classes, and good luck with your return to school!
