How An Internship Can Benefit You at School and Work

Imagine turning your classroom knowledge into real-world skills that set you apart in the job market. With the University’s internship course, you can gain valuable hands-on experience, earn academic credit and boost your resume while earning your degree.

In addition, this course helps you meet the requirements of companies that often prefer or even require students to earn credit through an internship.

What Is the Internship for Academic Credit Course?

The Internship for Academic Credit course at the University offers students an opportunity to earn academic credit through an internship that directly relates to their academic plan.

This 16-week, three-credit hour course requires students to log in 120 hours at an internship site, participate in weekly discussions and complete a final assignment.

Who’s Eligible for This Course?

To be eligible for this course, you must be enrolled in one of the following schools:

In addition, you must have at least one elective credit available in your academic plan to take this course. If you’ve exhausted your elective credits, there may still be options available. For instance, you could obtain special permission from your academic program’s Department Chair.

If you’re enrolled in one of the other University schools, don’t worry. Contact Career Services for guidance in finding some internships that fit your professional goals.

Finding an Internship That Fits You

To kick off your journey with this internship course, you’ll need to secure your own internship and meet specific criteria, such as aligning the internship site with your program objectives. While Career Services doesn’t place students in internships, we can assist with your search strategy to help you find the right opportunity.

Once you’ve found an internship, follow these steps:

  1. Evaluate your academic plan and explore how the internship course would support your academic and professional growth.
  2. Decide if you want to enroll in the internship program.
  3. If you choose to enroll, complete the Registration Request Form available in the ecampus Student Success Center to begin the approval process.
