Emergency and disaster management briefing for November 16, 2016: A student stabs five classmates and himself in Utah; officials shut down the Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma after a shooting; a Pennsylvania traffic stop turns deadly; all 34,000 Houma, LA residents lose power suddenly; fire erupts at a refinery in California; North Las Vegas hosts mock training with the National Guard, two trains collide in Florida; and a fire erupts in a Tennessee movie theater.

It was the eruption heard ’round the world, or at least ’round the U.S. Mount St. Helens erupted in Washington State on May 18, 1980, killing 57 and resulting in an estimated $1 billion in damages.

While recent seismic events on Mount St. Helens don’t introduce any immediate danger to the region, the tremors do bring a renewed focus to the volcano danger that looms in the PNW.
