Firefighters “continue to make good progress” extinguishing the Ranch Fire, the last of California’s two Mendocino Complex wildfires, California’s state fire agency reported Sunday evening.
Cal Fire said the Ranch Fire is now 83 percent contained, due to completed fire operations in the northeast areas of the wildfire. Full containment is expected by September 1.
“Operations are expected to continue on interior portions of the burned area focusing on reinforcing containment in the northeastern areas of the fire as weather conditions permit,” Cal Fire noted.
Fire crews are building and reinforcing containment lines and mopping up throughout the north and northeastern portions of the fire area, Cal Fire added. Fire suppression and repair efforts continue in the northwestern areas.
“The southern portion of the fire remains in patrol status as crews continue with suppression repair and mop up,” the agency said.
River Fire Contained, But Evacuations Remain in Effect
The River Fire is 100 percent contained. However, suppression repairs and patrols will continue.
Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for portions of Colusa and Glenn counties. Other areas of the two counties are under an evacuation advisory warning.
The Ranch and River fires, which broke out one month ago, on July 27, constitute the worst wildfire in California history. One firefighter died and three others were injured.
The fires have consumed 402,065 acres and destroyed 280 homes or other structures.
